Introduction to new articles
With the widespread use of laboratory-based hard X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (HAXPES) equipment using a Cr Kα excitation source, reports of HAXPES reference spectra for various elements/compounds have progressed, but spectra for chemically active materials such as alkali metals have not been published. We measured the XPS/HAXPES spectrum of Li metal, the lightest solid element at 1 atmosphere and room temperature, which also exhibits high chemical activity, and succeeded in obtaining the first Li(0) reference spectrum using a Cr Kα excitation source.
