Visualization of reaction distribution and reversible/irreversible behavior in oxide-based solid-state batteries using operando TOF-SIMS

image
To directly observe electrode reactions occurring inside solid-state batteries, we employed operando time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS). The solid-state batteries consisted of an NCA positive electrode, an LTO negative electrode, and a composite solid electrolyte, fabricated using a pressure-assisted melt infiltration method. During charge–discharge processes, we successfully visualized reversible changes in lithium and transition-metal ion signals.
