Introduction

Development of a high-throughput method for acquiring large tie-line composition datasets, enabling the rapid construction of phase diagrams for multicomponent systems

We developed a method for automatically acquiring a large number of tie-line composition datasets from a single sample by applying a new analytical technique—which extracts the compositions of matrix and precipitate phases from EPMA elemental maps and SEM images—to composition-gradient samples prepared by the diffusion couple method. By determining nearly 1,000 sets of γ-γ’ phase line composition data in the Ni-Co-Al-Ti quaternary system, we demonstrated a 130-fold increase in efficiency compared to conventional methods.
