Metallic Ca nanoparticles with optical anisotropy formed by swift heavy ion irradiation to CaF2 crystals

It is known that the aggregates of Ca atoms, i.e., nanoparticles (NPs), are formed in CaF2 crystals under particle irradiations. Under swift heavy ion (SHI) irradiation, i.e., very higher energy ions than tens of MeV, Ca NPs are promptly formed and influenced by the quite straight nature of the ion trajectories of SHIs. While the Ca NPs show optical anisotropy after the SHI irradiation, the present observations are different from the well-known phenomenon “shape elongation of NPs”
