Introduction to new articles
Control of spin states at the single-molecule level is a key challenge for the development of molecular spintronic devices. In this study, we demonstrate that the spin state of a gold porphyrin molecule extended with a phenalenyl group can be controlled by charge transfer on Au(111). Despite their nearly identical structures, differences in the charge state caused by interactions between molecule and substrate have a significant impact on the spin state. In other words, spin states can be controlled by charge transfer, indicating that this molecule can be a promising platform for applications in molecular spintronics.
