Frustration-Induced Many-Body Degeneracy in Spin −1/2 Molecular Quantum Rings

Introduction to new articles
In this study, we investigated the spin states of cyclic pentamers and
hexamers (S = 1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg models) fabricated on
Au(111) using air-stable phenalenyl derivatives. By combining STM/STS
measurements with theoretical simulations, we found that the pentamer
exhibits strong geometric frustration, resulting in a four-fold
degenerate ground state. The interplay between molecular structure and
magnetic interactions creates a unique quantum spin environment,
presenting new possibilities for precisely controlling quantum magnetic
interactions through molecular architectures.
